Sister Anabela informs the Hospitaller Community of the approval by the Dicastery for Consecrated Life

Message for the whole HOSPITALLER COMMUNITY

I am reaching out to all of you, service users, co-workers, family members, volunteers, benefactors, friends and sisters, with a greeting of Peace.

I wish to share with you the joy and gratitude of having received the approval of our renewed Constitutions by the Dicastery for Consecrated Life.

The Constitutions are for us, as Sisters Hospitallers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the book which guides our lives as consecrated women and our mission of hospitaller service, a mission which we perform together as we serve the vulnerable.

Our present Constitutions were approved in 1983 and subsequently underwent a number of changes, each time in order to respond better to our changing world, the Church and our own lives as Sisters.

“our only course is to imitate the Good Samaritan… showing us how a community can be rebuilt by men and women who identify with the vulnerability of others, who reject the creation of a society of exclusion, and act instead as neighbours, lifting up and rehabilitating the fallen for the sake of the common good.” (cf. Fratelli Tutti, 67).

In recent years, we have become conscious of the need for a more comprehensive revision, to take into account the theological-charismatic development of our Hospitaller mission and the new prospects opening up before it. This process has been carried out over these past three years and, following the Extraordinary General Chapter, they were submitted to the Holy See for official approval.

This approval confirms and fosters our Samaritan vocation in the Church and in the world, for, as Pope Francis says, in the face of so much pain and suffering, “our only course is to imitate the Good Samaritan… showing us how a community can be rebuilt by men and women who identify with the vulnerability of others, who reject the creation of a society of exclusion, and act instead as neighbours, lifting up and rehabilitating the fallen for the sake of the common good.” (cf. Fratelli Tutti, 67).

I thank each and every one of you for your hospitaller service.

With my kindest regards and best wishes,

Anabela Carneiro,

Superior General
