Let´s Talk About Mental Health: psychomotor skills and ageing

In a new episode of the podcast Let’s Talk About Mental Health, we speak with Dr Sofia Figueirinhas, a psychomotor therapist at the Psychogeriatric Centre Nossa Senhora de Fátima (Sisters Hospitallers – Parede | Cascais), about her experience with psychomotor interventions for older adults in institutional settings.
Specialised in gerontopsychomotricity, Sofia works on sensory stimulation and non-verbal communication to enhance the wellbeing and quality of life of people experiencing both typical and pathological ageing processes. In addition to being part of the unit’s multidisciplinary team, she also contributes to the implementation of community programmes such as the Senior Brain Gym, aimed at promoting active ageing and preventing dementia.
Mental health is a fundamental aspect of our wellbeing, and it affects all of us at every stage of life. In this episode, we focus on mental health in older age, but it is important to remember that, whenever we experience emotional distress, uncertainty, or difficult situations, seeking support from a qualified mental health professional is always advisable.
Taking care of our mental health is also an act of hospitality towards ourselves.
