St Augustine’s Welcomes Young People for Prayer and Reflection

Sixteen young people joined our Sisters in Addlestone for their monthly gathering, sharing Scripture, prayer and friendship.
On 13 September, our Sisters at St Augustine’s Care Home in Addlestone welcomed 16 young people for their monthly gathering. Over five hours, they came together to pray, reflect on Scripture and share their experiences in an atmosphere of trust and friendship.
These regular encounters are an important part of the Sisters’ work with young people. They offer an opportunity to deepen their faith, ask questions and find encouragement in one another, while building lasting relationships with the Hospitaller community.
An afternoon of prayer and reflection
The gathering began with an hour of Eucharistic Adoration in the Sisters’ Oratory, followed by the Divine Mercy prayer and the Rosary.
The group then moved to the meeting room, where they listened to a commentary on the Sunday readings before continuing with Lectio Divina, taking time to reflect on the Word of God and its place in their daily lives.
A central part of the afternoon was dedicated to sharing reflections on the three Letters of St John and the Letter of St Jude, which participants had been reading and reflecting upon since their previous meeting.
This preparation allowed the young people to contribute their own thoughts and experiences, making the gathering an opportunity not only to listen, but also to participate actively and learn from one another.
Accompanying young people in their faith
The afternoon concluded with tea, coffee and cakes, giving everyone time to catch up and enjoy being together.
For our Sisters, these gatherings are about more than organising a monthly activity. They are an opportunity to accompany young people as they develop their relationship with God, offering them a welcoming environment where they can speak openly about their faith and feel part of a community.
Creating opportunities for young people to meet, pray and share their experiences remains an important part of the Hospitaller mission. Through these encounters, St Augustine’s continues to bring different generations together, allowing relationships to grow through prayer, conversation and friendship.
We thank all 16 young people who joined us for this gathering and look forward to welcoming them again next month.
