Growing Together in Faith: October Youth Gathering in Addlestone

Young people gathered with Sr Isabel Cantón for an afternoon of prayer, reflection and open conversation, exploring how faith can guide them through the challenges of everyday life
On 18 October 2026, the Sisters Hospitallers welcomed a group of young people to Addlestone for their monthly faith gathering, led by Sr Isabel Cantón. Eleven people came together for a day dedicated to prayer, spiritual reflection and meaningful conversations about faith and daily life.
These monthly meetings offer young people an opportunity to deepen their relationship with God, share their experiences and explore questions that do not always have easy answers.
A Time for Prayer and Reflection
The gathering began with Eucharistic Adoration, followed by the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
Participants then took part in Lectio Divina, reflecting on the Sunday Scripture readings and exploring their meaning through a commentary by Bishop Robert Barron.
The afternoon also included a lecture by John Lennox on the Book of Revelation, which encouraged further reflection and discussion. What followed was an extended conversation in which participants shared their thoughts, questions and personal experiences.
The discussions touched on the difficulties of everyday life, particularly those situations where answers are not always clear. Throughout the conversations, participants returned to the importance of God’s grace, prayer and compassion for others.
Faith Through the Voices of Young People
The reflections shared after the meeting reveal how meaningful these gatherings have become for those taking part.
One participant reflected on the importance of trusting in God’s grace when facing life’s uncertainties:
“He lavishes us with His Love despite who we are. He gives us the opportunity to grow in patience, compassion for others.”
Another young person shared how the experience had helped them reconsider what truly matters:
“Being with Sr Isabel and the group of young people made me realise that the most important thing is the Lord, and that we should not worry so much about worldly things, but focus on being a good person.”
For others, the opportunity to pray and discuss their faith together was particularly valuable.
“It was a very interesting and beautiful day, being able to discuss and pray with other people.”
One participant thanked Sr Isabel for creating a welcoming environment:
“Thank you very much for yesterday. I really enjoyed myself, and you’ve provided a perfect environment for us all to feel loved by God.”
The same participant recalled a phrase from Sr Isabel’s prayer that had stayed with them:
“Jesus looks at us with eyes of love and mercy, because He loves us and we are His.”
A Growing Community of Faith
Although transport difficulties prevented several young people from attending, interest in the monthly gatherings continues to grow.
Sr Isabel has noticed that more young people are expressing a desire to join the group, reflecting the importance of having a welcoming space where faith can be explored openly and friendships can develop.
Future meetings may take place at St Teresa’s Home in London, making it easier for more participants to attend.
Through prayer, shared reflection and honest conversation, these gatherings continue to offer young people an opportunity to strengthen their faith and experience the spirit of Hospitality in community.
