On 21 February 2026, the Liberia Learning Center in Paynesville hosted “Nurturing the Nurturer: Strengthening the Roots of Motherhood”, a community event focused on maternal mental health and emotional wellbeing.
The initiative was organised by African Women Success Stories and supported by the Sisters Hospitallers Centre in Monrovia through the We Are Like You project, which forms part of our ongoing mental health work in Liberia.
The session brought together mothers and community members to discuss the emotional realities of motherhood, including fatigue, anxiety, sleep deprivation and the pressures associated with caregiving responsibilities.
A key objective of the event was to increase understanding of maternal mental health, including the distinction between baby blues and postpartum depression, and to encourage early recognition of emotional distress. Participants were given space to share experiences and reflect on the importance of supportive environments.
Through the We Are Like You project, our Monrovia Centre continues to promote mental health awareness at community level, working to reduce stigma and foster open dialogue around emotional wellbeing.
Supporting maternal mental health contributes to stronger families, healthier child development and more resilient communities.
Sisters Hospitallers remain committed to holistic care rooted in hospitality, dignity and respect for every person, recognising mental health as a fundamental dimension of overall wellbeing.
