Hospitality that embraces creation, inspired by Pope Leo XIV’s call to care for our common home

This year, we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical that calls us to care for our common home, the Earth. For us, Sisters Hospitallers, this celebration is deeply connected with our charism of Hospitality, which is not only about welcoming and healing people, but also about protecting creation, safeguarding life, and responding to the cry of the poor and the cry of the Earth.

Our values of compassion, service, humanizing care, and ethics in everything align perfectly with the invitation of Laudato Si’: to embrace an integral ecology, where the well-being of people and creation are inseparable.
As Pope Leo XIV reminded us:

Laudato Si’ taught us to listen to the twofold cry of the Earth and of the poor.

This echo is at the heart of our mission: to care for those who suffer, to welcome those excluded, and to defend life in all its forms.

A Call for Conversion and Hope

On this anniversary, Pope Leo XIV called us to conversion of heart and action, especially for those who still doubt the urgency of the ecological crisis:

We need the conversion of those who still deny the urgency of the climate crisis, both inside and outside the Church.

At the same time, he sowed seeds of encouragement:

Even in the hardest places, seeds of peace and hope can grow, if we combine prayer with concrete action.

This message inspires our Hospitaller communities to continue small, daily gestures of ecological care, whether through sustainable practices in our centers, protection of natural resources, or education for creation stewardship.
