Did you know the story of Harvest Festival?
Harvest Festival has ancient roots in agricultural societies that celebrated the gathering of crops and gave thanks for a successful harvest. Although it’s rooted in a wide variety of cultures, the modern-day Harvest Festival in Western contexts is influenced heavily by Christian and pre-Christian traditions, where the autumn harvest was a key time for communities to come together in gratitude for food and the fruits of the earth.
Historically, it is a celebration of the harvest and the food grown on the land of the United Kingdom about giving thanks for a successful harvest throughout the year as winter begins to approach. The festival is also about giving thanks for all the good and positive things in people’s lives, such as family and friends. Currently, Harvest Festival is a way to instill values of gratitude, sharing, and community service and is the perfect occasion to build the sense of community.
The Harvest Festival encapsulates these values by reminding people to be thankful for the food they have, to remember those who are less fortunate, and to recognize the cycles of nature as part of God’s creation. Our residents love this day, they enjoyed a lot singing the hymns and spending time in community
