At Sisters Hospitallers, care is rooted in love, expressed through presence, compassion and shared moments. This Valentine’s Day at St Augustine’s, our centre in Addlestone, was a beautiful reflection of that spirit lived out in community.
The home came alive with music, laughter and a joyful sense of togetherness. Residents gathered to celebrate not only romantic love, but friendship, family bonds and the simple happiness of being together. The atmosphere was warm and uplifting, filled with conversation, smiles and meaningful connection.
Valentine’s Day has its origins in the early Christian tradition. It recalls Saint Valentine, a third-century priest who became associated with faithful and committed love. Over time, the day evolved into a wider cultural celebration of affection and friendship, yet its roots remain linked to themes of devotion, loyalty and care for others. These values resonate deeply with the hospitaller spirit that shapes life at our carehome.
Welcoming family members into the celebration made the day even more special. Their presence brought additional joy and reinforced something central to our mission: our homes are places where relationships are nurtured, strengthened and cherished.
The highlight of the afternoon was undoubtedly the wonderful selection of party food and the delicious cake, prepared by our dedicated team of chefs. A heartfelt thank you goes to the Sisters, Nina, a volunteer from Friends of St Augustine’s, and our team for organising such a joyful and thoughtfully planned celebration. Their commitment and attention to detail made the day truly memorable for residents and their families.
Moments like these reflect our commitment to creating environments where each person feels valued, accompanied and truly at home.
In the days leading up to Valentine’s Day, the spirit of celebration was already taking shape.
Nina, together with residents, helped transform the lounge with festive decorations, filling the space with colour and warmth. The preparations themselves became moments of collaboration and shared purpose, strengthening community bonds and building anticipation for the day.
At Sisters Hospitallers, every celebration, whether large or small, is an opportunity to live out our hospitaller mission in practical and meaningful ways.
