World Mental Health Day, observed on October 10th, is a key date to reflect on the importance of mental health in our lives and society

World Mental Health Day, celebrated every 10 October, is a key date to reflect on the importance of mental health in our lives and our society. In a world where one in four people face a mental health problem at some point in their lives, the need for action is unquestionable and urgent.

History of Sisters Hospitallers: 143 years of commitment

From 143 years, Sisters Hospitallers have been at the service of the people suffering for mental health problems, offering much more than professional medical care: we provide a home, a place of welcome where each person is listened to, understood and supported with love and mercy. Our hospitaller charism drives us to support those most in need, relieving their suffering in the image of Jesus, the Good Samaritan.

This commitment is reflected in our daily work, where we help more than 820.000 people worldwide each year to navigate their illnesses, facing mental health challenges with resilience. For us, mental health is not only a well-being matter but also a call to the evangelisation through  hospitality, following the example of our founder, Saint Benedict Menni.

#TheirFightIsAlsoOurs: Testimonies of hope

This year, as part of World Mental Health Day, we would like to share with you the stories of eight patients who have found in our hospitaller family the professional help and human quality to overcome their challenges. These people are a living testimony that a better life is possible.

These stories not only inspire us, but also remind us the importance of our mission and the need to keep working to eliminate the stigma associated with mental health problems.

On this World Mental Health Day, we invite you to join us in our hospitaller mission, the fight of those who live with mental suffering is also ours.
